In today's episode, we're going to show you how to use Word of mouth as an effective marketing strategy for your podcast. Welcome to Podcasting Q&A, where you learn the best tips and strategies to launch grow and monetize your show. When it comes to marketing, no method is more tried and true than word of mouth. So in today's episode, we're going to show you a few ways you can use Word of mouth marketing to expand the reach of your podcast. So what is word of mouth marketing? It's the process of actively encouraging organic discussion and conversation about a topic, an event, a product or service, etc. How effective is it though? Well, 92% of people trust the recommendations from friends and family. And for millennials, word of mouth is the number one influencer when it comes to making purchasing decisions. So pretty effective. So let's talk about a few tips and strategies to use Word of mouth marketing for your podcast. The first is to create something buzz worthy. So the thing about word of mouth marketing is it needs to be organic, so people are going to be talking about it, you actually want them to want to talk about it. So here are a few ways to make your podcast more buzz worthy. The first way is create amazing content. So you want to have a podcast that sounds amazing, it's easy to follow that has some sort of structure and flow that's actually worth engaging. The second thing you want to do is niche down, this creates a more unique podcast. So instead of maybe having a podcast simply about all comic books that have ever existed, maybe you pick DC comic books over Marvel comic books, and that is helpful because when someone falls in love with your podcast about this specific thing, they immediately have someone in mind that they would want to share that with but also love your podcasts. And then the last thing is, don't be afraid to bring your entire self, your entire personality to the space. Because nobody can replace you. And there's something unique about the flavor of you that people will be drawn to as they listen to your podcast. The second strategy for using Word of mouth as a marketing tool is to reward and encourage conversation, right? So word of mouth should be an organic conversation that people are engaging in because they want to so how do we get them to want to? Well, the first thing you can do is provide incentive for them sharing on social. So if you get tagged in a picture that a listener posts about them listening to the podcast, engage, interact like it, you can share it in your stories. That way they feel as if they are participating in the podcast experience with you. And they'll be more likely to continue to do that. But also, all their followers are now aware of your podcast and that to interact with your listeners. At that level. You can also ask them to provide reviews, they can review your podcasts on Apple podcasts. And that works as a social proof as well. And people are checking out your podcast they see Oh, Sarah, love this podcast. I might love it too. The last thing you can do and the call of action of your podcast at the outro space is asking people to share it and you don't want to be generic. You want to be super specific. So if you know someone else who loves Dragonball Z and likes to nerd out about that share this podcast episode with them. The goal of being super specific and niching down in that way is to bring to mind a specific person or people to the listeners mind so that they immediately go and share your podcast episode with whoever they think would also enjoy Dragonball Z.
