Today on five minute Monday, we'll talk about the number one free strategy to grow your podcast. welcome to five minute Monday. We were bringing the best tips and strategies for building your podcast in five minutes or less. So if you're new here, consider subscribing. Now this is week number three of our five week mini series focused on growing your podcast. And today we're going to talk about the biggest bang for your buck growth strategy that's working right now, guest podcasting. So here's how it works. When you are a guest on someone else's podcast, you're able to introduce yourself and your expertise to an entirely new audience of potential listeners. And that audience trusts the host that is interviewing you, which is why they are listening to that podcast. So when they hear you on their favorite podcast, they're likely to listen to your podcast as well. But the key, as always, is in the execution. Now the first thing you need to do is find good fits. Find podcasts that are going to be beneficial to you to be a guest on right? And what you're looking for is audience overlap. You want that podcast to have listeners that are likely to subscribe and enjoy your podcast. So if you have a podcast about running, you don't want to be a guest on a podcast that's about dungeons and dragons, right? Because those audiences don't overlap. Now, one thing you can do is to find other podcasts in your category, and the easiest place to do this is probably an apple podcasts or iTunes if a iTunes still exists when you're listening to this episode. And so for instance, if you have a Christian podcast, then you want to search under the religion and spirituality category and then even under the Christianity sub category to see other podcasts that have similar audiences. And you can also click on your podcast and look under the tab that says related or listeners also subscribe to to get an idea of other podcasts that apple podcasts says are related to yours based on listener data. The second thing you need to do is pitch your value. Once you have a list of a dozen podcasts or so, you want to start reaching out to the hosts of those podcasts and you can direct message them on social media. You fill out the contact form on their website or just find their email address and when you reach out to them, when you pitch them to be a guest on their podcast, your message needs to revolve around answering a single question, what's in it for me? Right? Why should they have you on their podcast? What value will you bring to their audience and why is it in their best interest to interview you? Even when you're pitching them, you want to be focused on how can I serve you and your audience? How can I make your podcast better? Because when they perceive that the value they're getting from you is greater than what they're giving you in return exposure to their audience, that's when they're going to decide, you know what? I want to have you as a guest on my podcast and then once you land that guest interview, the number three thing that you have to do for this strategy to work is you have to over deliver. You have to make it your mission to be the best yest they have ever had and remember, you are not a guest on their podcast just to pitch your podcast to their audience. It doesn't work anyways. Your job as a guest is to make their listeners say, wow, that was an amazing podcast episode. I want to hear more from that guest, right? That is your job and if they are a good host, they will let you plug your podcast towards the end of the interview and then if you've done your job, your audience will grow in the weeks after that episode is released. You'll see a nice little bump the day that you are a guest podcast episode goes out, and then as people continue to listen to that episode though to go and find your podcast.
